Fort Frances, in northwestern Ontario opposite International Falls, Minn., is a busy border-crossing town. On the shores of Rainy Lake and Rainy River, it was originally established as Fort St. Pierre by Pierre de La Verendrye in 1731. The town is named after Lady Frances Simpson, who traveled with her husband Sir George Simpson, governor of the Hudson's Bay Co., on a trip to the settlement in 1830. Learn More...
